Small Town Kailua

My family and I took a day trip to Kailua Beach Park. It's a short 45 minutes ride from Honolulu. It was super windy when we arrived to the beach, and there were many people wind surfing. The waves were absolutely crazy, and watching the people ride the waves gave me both anxiety and excitement.

Kailua Beach Park is definitely a more quiet beach, and there were mainly just locals there. The town itself is very residential, so we definitely got a different experience of Hawaii. It offered a slower island pace and a more authentic Hawaiian experience, which I loved.

Also, did you know Obama and his family have rented a house in Kailua for the past seven Christmases? That must mean something right?
Kailua is also close by to Lanikai, and both of these beaches are reef-protected bays and have been consistently ranked for one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It's definitely not your ordinary beach, that's for sure.

It's also home to some of the island's best hikes. The Lanikai Pillbox hike is super close by, and unfortunately because of time, we weren't able to visit it. This hike offers an amazing view of the waters. If there's one thing that you should do in Hawaii, it is to go on a hike. It doesn't matter which one, but seeing the island from above is a whole different experience.

If you can't already tell I really enjoyed my experience in Hawaii. The trip was way too short, but that's okay because I am definitely coming back in the near future. :-)
