My Canada

Hi, my name is Samantha Huynh and this is #MyCanada story.

I am born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario. Being a first generation Chinese Vietnamese individual in Canada, I am very connected to my roots. I was raised to always accept social differences, accept oddity and challenge the norm. For that, I have always been a curious individual. Growing up, I would dream about all the places I have yet to visit, the food I have yet to taste, and the people I have yet to meet.

My curiosity sparked most in my final year of high school. I started planning mini-trips to the city, researching different neighbourhoods, and new places to visit and experience. As a 17-year-old girl, I was very new to this but just planning these adventures filled me with excitement. Toronto is known to be the most culturally diverse city in the world, and I am grateful for that, as it has allowed me to experience the world in a smaller proximity. It has created an avenue for my passion of seeing and experiencing the world, and has become a huge part of what I consider as #MyCanada and my life.

I’m turning 20 this June, and my journey has just begun. In eight months I will be studying abroad in Portugal, and immersing myself in a whole new world. I’m excited, yet frightened for what’s to come.
